The Battle of Damascus was one of the final actions of the Syrian-Lebanon Campaign, with Free French troops, along with British Indian and Australian allies, in a final push to capture the capital city of Syria. The advancing forces captured the outlying towns at Qadim and Merdjayoun, relieving the siege of Mezzeh, before advancing on Damascus and eventually forcing the surrender of the Vichy French garrison in the city.
