Got a little roleplaying experience? You're in luck, too. Tales of the Valiant (ToV) uses something called the Black Flag Roleplaying system, which is fully compatible with Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons (5E). So, if you've played 5E D&D, you'll feel right at home.
