The Tomb of the Giants is a forsaken and cursed place, teeming with all manner of dread creatures. Any venturing this far beneath the earth best bring a light, lest they find their own extinguished. Those who survive the skeletal hordes shall find an ancient evil brooding in the blackness. . .the First of the Dead, Gravelord Nito.

Dark Souls: The Tomb of the Giants is a cooperative board game for 1-3 players. Take control of either the Cleric, Pyromancer, or Thief as you progress through several dark and perilous encounters, culminating in an epic boss battle against Gravelord Nito himself.

To be successful, you must work together. Explore chambers and passages long lost to the living, and defeat your enemies by learning their attack patterns and weaknesses - but be careful. If a character dies, the game doesn't end, but there will be a cost. If even one of you falls prey to the evil lurking in the darkness, the whole party must return to the bonfire, and each encounter resets.

It's Dark Souls, So Be Prepared to Fail...A Lot

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

SteamForged Games does good work. I backed Resident Evil 2: The Board Game and was very impressed, so when I wanted a (light) dungeon crawler board game, Dark Souls: The Board Game seemed like a good option. Pros - Both player and enemy characters look nice and are of good quality. - I liked the classes offered in Tomb of Giants over some of the other core sets, seemed more varied. - Scenarios are quick to set up, even on the higher difficulties. -It's challenging. Cons - Sometimes felt too challenging solo (especially with some classes). - There are some typos/errors on a few cards and tokens (SFG does have an errata sheet to download). - Minor issue with not all the cards fitting nicely in their slots when sleeved, but it's not terrible. - I am not a fan of the punch-out character boards, seems like a step backward from the original core set. Overall, it's a great game, my complaints are minor and the pros and fun gameplay outweigh them.
