Around the Campfire is a downtime activity zine with the focus on setting up camp and keeping busy between adventuring, and explores the challenges and difficulties of sleeping in the rough, and meeting other basic needs. Players can work together to complete one or all of these tasks each time camp is set, or divide the workload amongst each other.
While we have tried to keep these rules as standalone as possible, the Gamemaster might need to make adjustments to fit their chosen system.
In many tabletop RPGs, the day-to-day needs of the adventurers are largely ignored in-game, hand-waved away as "assumed to be taken care of" as needed. The lifestyle of an adventurer affords them a certain level of comfort, at least as long as the coin lasts. Generally speaking, except at times when the town they are living in is suffering - like in the case of some king of widespread problem like bad weather causing crop loss or the watering hole is poisoned - it is assumed the players' characters can easily take care of themselves and there's no need to track every bag of beans or how well-hydrated they are.
Once the adventurers hit the dusty trail, however, often in pursuit of fame and riches, the same cannot be assumed and these rules about making camp can be optionally used by the Gamemaster to enhance the gameplay.
