Great Plains Review

Our ancient ancestors created images on the walls of caves to tell stories about the world around them and the animals they shared it with - and perhaps they, like you, played games to make those stories come to life...

Great Plains is a mysterious game about a not-so-mysterious behavior of our kind: two players competing for the dominance over the Great Plains! With help from the spiritual animal world, they overcome hills, cross the lowlands, and invade each other's territory in order to become the tribe who will live on.

Quick Tactics and Fun Play

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This plays so quickly and gives a great sense of rewards or punishments for your choice. Great variability. The only qualm is I feel like a lot of the game comes down to the first stage of choosing huts. The starting points are often far enough away that there are only one or two points of contention so the back and forth seems less meaningful than other abstract games.

Better Than It First Seems

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This one was a slow burn for me. The rules seem too simple, but the more you play it, the more strategy emerges. There are real surprises to be found here.

Simple and fun -- not mean

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

Great game! Really enjoy the simple area control mechanisms and using the bear pieces doesn't feel mean -- it just feels like taking a piece in chess, only cuter due to the fun bubbly artwork. A nice puzzle without feeling brain-burnery at all. Highly recommend!

Breezy but thoughtful abstract

Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

This one is really enjoyable. Fast turns and the game is over before you know it. Knizia take on area control is very interesting and fun.

Quick and simple but not dull

Quick to play and teach. Nice table presence. Might be too simple for some gamers but can definitely appeal to a wide range of gamers.
