Manufacturer: Gale Force 9

Basing Grits are used to represent all sorts of dirt, sand, rubble or debris. A note on our basing grit: All Gale Force Nine basing grit is made from a porous organic material rather than sand or other minerals. This organic material absorbs glue and paint, insuring that everything stays where you want it. When using sand (or kitty litter or any other mineral), paint and glue tend to flake off over time.

Sand very good

Great for gaming scale modeling

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great product. The scale is great for representing dirt or gravel with gaming scale minis or dioramas. Grain size is very consistent.

Very fine sand as advertised and a nice deep color

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This is the finest sand that I have found and works great for basing my minis. The color is a nice deep natural color and looks great as is, with no additional painting to it.

Very fine grains

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

This stuff is very very fine grains, so at 28mm scale they look like small rocks. All the GF9 basing grits are different size grains of ground walnut shells. This is a very good material for basing. The walnut shells are microscopically porous so they absorb the glue well and bond tightly to the base. As other reviewer has mentioned it is good to mix a few different size grains together to get a better variation in sizes.

Great foundation grit when mixed with the other sizes!

Average rating of 5 out of 5 stars

I find that the Hobby Round Basing Grits are most effective when they're mixed together. I personally use a picture of Super Fine, Fine, and Medium Basing Grits. I also have the Rocking Basing Grit but try to use it sparingly, depending on the size of the miniature. The Super Fine Basing Grit has a consistency similar to playground sand and acts as a wonderful filler for the other grits. It establishes a base texture that can fill in the tighter recesses of a base or the area near a figure's feet. I have had an issue with this stuff getting stuck underneath my fingernails in the past which can be unpleasant. Just be careful when you're handling it because these particles are incredibly small.
