Good gateway game, and fun for experienced players. Simple rules, great game play, amazing components, and beautiful art.

In general, the game consists only of an auction, but each game plays out differently. Easy to learn and suitable for sociable people. I recommend it to everyone who likes auctions.

Great addition to my board games. Trying to figure out how much each art piece will be worth is a fun puzzle and once everyone grasps the predictions then the game is really about winning with small margins. Really great game.

Modern Art has stood the test of time for a reason. On the surface, it's an auction game — pretty simple. But dig a little deeper and you'll realize it's a resource management game with auctions as the primary point of player interaction. It's sharp, clever, and easy to teach. Highly recommend.

I've slowly been introducing my coworkers to board games after work and this was a big hit. The rules are very simple to understand but the decisions are tricky, the art really pops, and the components are minimal and don't take up much table space. The teach is quick and intuitive, but I would recommend spending some time during the first playthrough talking through various decisions you are making so that everyone can pick up on various nuances of play and strategy.

I have moved several times in my life, and I pare down my game collection every time. Modern art was let go twice. I regretted it both times. And now it is here to stay. In our brave new world of crazy over mechaniced games, the purity of a straight forward but wickedly brutal auction game is refreshing. One of Knizia's best.

Fast, fun, and flamboyant

Modern Art is a fairly straightforward auction game with surprising depth. You need to balance hyping your preferred artist while holding onto their works to sell for more money later. Having a dynamic value system makes for interesting decisions.

Modern art is a nifty gambling game, with lovely components and a nice rulebook (half of which is dedicated to information about the real artists featured in the game). While the competitive bidding and card play may not be for everyone, I am enjoying it so far, and am eager to play it soon.
