BattleTech: Alpha Strike Box Set

I haven't played Battletech since the FASA days and I wanted to see what Catylist has done with the game. Let me tell you, they have done a GREAT JOB with this starter set. The Alpha Strike rules are well thought out and fun to play. They have streamlined the damage tracking; I didn't miss individual hit locations on the Mechs at all. In our first game we had 15 Mechs on our 4x4 board and within 2 hours we had 9 destroyed! The Starter set is a fantastic deal. The Starter rules are actually enough for us to play with without getting the hardback book which has ALL the rules, (most of which we never used anyway back in the day). 13 PRE-ASSEMBLED Mech get you going without hours of assembly and come in a smattering of sizes (light-weight Locust and Wasp to the heavy hitting Atlas and Warhammer). It also comes with cardstock fold-together buildings and heavy-duty stand-up trees!! Throw down a hunk of felt and you are good to go!! You get all the data cards for the included Mechs along with other informational cards. If you have an interest in Battletech, buy this set. It is one of the best valued Starter sets I've seen in a long time.

This box is a great way to get started with alpha strike, it absolutely has everything you need to just open the box and start playing. The layout of the rules and scenarios is helpful to ease new players in while character-ful enough to provide entertainment for seasoned players. The mechs and variants in this box are a good selection and provide many options for alpha strike or even classic battletech.

It is the 31st century, and mankind is once again at war. The battlefields of the future are dominated by huge robotic war machines known as BattleMechs. Piloting these awesome weapons of war are men and women, the elite of the elite, knowing that each battle could be their last. They are... MechWarriors. Battletech is a game based around combat between building-sized robotic war machines known as Battlemechs. Battletech Classic is quite fun and fairly granular, with a very high-risk high-reward weapons, armor, and heat system, while also involving things such as pilot skill, their stats, specific types of armor, engines, weapons systems... Alpha Strike breaks a lot of that down into a VERY new-player friendly, fast-paced, slugfest match of giant stompy war machines doing what they do best: shoot and clobber the everliving snot out of each other. This box set is a perfect entry point, including one unit (or Star) of Clan Omni-Mechs - fast-moving, hard-hitting high-tech machines piloted by MechWarriors who live for war. On the other side are two units (or Lances) of Inner Sphere Battlemechs, a motley lineup of BattleMechs anywhere from 50 to 300 years old, brought up to modern standard, and thrown into a fight for survival while piloted by pilots either desperate or insane. Also included is a primer to get you up to speed with the basics of the Battletech universe with enough to help you understand the major players and their place in the galaxy, as well as quick-start rules designed to get your pre-assembled 'mechs onto the table and coring foes in minutes. Finally, a major highlight to me? It had within it over a dozen sturdy papercraft buildings so you can turn your dinner table at home into a war-torn battlefield of the far-flung future. All in all, this was WELL worth the investment. I'd honestly be willing to buy again if I had the spare cash.

I don't really play the Alpha strike version but just the miniatures and buildings are well worth the price!

The alpha strike box is a good box to have. Good for beginners wanting to get into alpha strike table top game play. The box has enough goods for the standard battletech as well. Beautiful cardboard terrain and paper buildings. Cards and core rule book included and are well made. Comes with one lance of Clans and a lance of inner sphere making it easy to make two teams to get right in the game out of the box. The box doesn't disappoint on battletechs, getting started or adding to one's collection . The box may seem expensive but comes with so many goodys. It is a must for all battletech pilots and warriors.

This is an awesome way to get into Alpha Strike. I'm excited to expand my Inner Sphere and Clan lances.
