Beyond the Sun: Leaders of the New Dawn Expansion

The expansion offers some nice options to the base game, and also a solo play option I haven't tested out yet. The leaders offer some nice variation to the base factions.

The extra tech and planet cards are very welcome to add variety, and you should basically always shuffle them in, as they have minimal additional complexity. Some of the leader cards initially may seem too drab or underwhelming, but the slight boosts they give you can sometimes have a significant effect on how sequence your opening few turns and thus affect how the game opens up later. The solo mode is fairly easy to run, the bot outside a couple of simplifications on ship movements generally makes reasonably intelligent decisions, and it maintains most of the interaction of the multiplayer mode. However, it is like always playing against a hyper-aggressive opponent. I like that in some other games, but what I like most about Beyond the Sun is sequencing researching new techs; the multiplayer solitaire parts of the game are relatively more fun than the interactive parts of the game. Some others may feel the same way and not enjoy the solo that much.

This is not a necessary expansion and it's not the expansion I hoped for. That said there is some interesting stuff in it. The leaders give you a small starting boost and a strategy to go for from the get go. The A-Sol solo AI opponent is an interesting twist on the game adding conflict. It unfortunately only adds a few new planets and tech cards.

Expansion adds variability to the game with new technologies, new planets to colonize, new asymmetric factions, new asymmetric powers that can be added to any faction. Solo mode is fun and captures the tension of the game as you are racing against the automa to achieve your objective.

In all honesty, opening this box is very underwhelming. There isn't much here. I really wish they would have included a lot more new techs. That being said, the Solo variant is excellent. It gives you the feeling of playing the game multiplayer. It is pretty difficult, but very fun.

This expansion adds new factions, so that's good and it does add new cards. Unfortunately, it only adds three factions, so that means not every player will be able to have a new experience completely. But there are new cards for everyone to enjoy. it's a nice addition to an already good game.

I love this expansion, it adds much needed playing options and depth to an already great game

The Solo game is of little interest to me, but the Leaders add a great way to further specialize variable player powers. The additional two Advanced player boards are interesting, and more tech cards are also welcome. Overall, worth it if you're already a Beyond the Sun fan, as I am!

Leaders are good, and a few new cards and some replacements nice. 2 new advanced factions is probably my favorite piece. The solo mode is awful. Solo mode can not use new Leaders or new factions mats (basic only)
