Res Arcana: Perlae Imperii Expansion

This expansion to Res Arcana integrates seamlessly, and adds entertaining new content without overcomplicating the game in the way some expansions do. It will add a bit of playtime to any session if you choose to play to 13 points, but all in all adds a lot of fun and flavor to an already excellent game.

Do you love Res Arcana? Perlae Imperii is just more of that! It adds more artifacts, more mages, and more awesome Places of Power. The one actual rule change of Perlae Imperii is, obviously, the pearls. Each player starts with one, and you can acquire more throughout the game; the pearls themselves are an essence that acts like your artifact cards in-hand. It can be discarded at any time in exchange for 2 colored essences or one gold. Additionally, each pearl in your possession or stored on your cards is worth 1 point. But, the real value is in having even more starting essences to make your turn-1 absolutely explosive! To compensate for the extra points and essences, the score to win has increased from 10 to 13. Has this increased the length and scope of an already tight game, that usually ended on round 4? Nope. I've even finished out the game with 16 points on turn 3 once, because the new cards in this expansion introduce even more busted combos than were already in the game. I love Res Arcana, I love this expansion, and I bet you will, too.

Adds a few nice extra options to the game without significantly extending the game length.

Perlae Imperii adds new options and complexity to already a great game. The pearl counts as VP and can be converted into any resources including gold, allowing a new strategy for VP engine generation.

This adds some great new cards and choices for this already great game. Also love the addition of the pearls as a new resource.

Res Arcana is one of my favorite games of all time. Any expansion that adds more content is welcome but the pearls in this game add a nice bit of flexibility that keeps even veteran players on their toes.

This is a good second expansion to the base game that adds a new element and changes the win condition from 10 to 13 points. It makes it a much more different game than the first expansion did, which may or may not be a good thing, depending on your taste. As always, components and art are high quality, and everything fits seamlessly into the original box of the base game.

This engine-building, fantasy-themed game is really cool and one of my favorites. This expansion adds more goodness, including the cool pearl components.

Excellent expansion, can easily be worked into all other content.

I wanted more stuff for Res Arcana and got more stuff for Res Arcana. I'm a happy man.
